It is unusual to get a chance to view of a real history of bikes. Museums have them. So it was an extra treat to see a dozen bikes on display on the Sunday Without Cars event at the Palais Justice. In the foreground is a bone shaker. No pedals, you sit astride and then propel the bike as if you are on a scooter.
Wheels are wooden. And one guess why it was nicknamed ‘boneshaker’.
This display carries a history through penny farthings and carriage bikes to, this being Belgium, one of the older Eddy Merckx frames.
